The Ford Mondeo has been one of the UK’s favorite family cars for years. as well as being the chariot of choice for a generation of business representatives riding the British highways. Since it replaced the Sierra in 1992 it has seen several generations develop, with the fifth being unveiled at the Paris Motor Show recently. Will the new version live up to the expectations of its predecessors?
New Ford Mondeo arrives
The Ford Mondeo of previous years has featured powerful petrol variants and the usual unrefined diesel engines of the day. In 2012, the World expects something quite different from its vehicles, and the latest Mondeo range features the new Ford EcoBoost engines starting with the 1.0 litre unit.
The engine range is completed by two diesel variants, the 1.5 and the 2.0 litre engine capacity. Over the next three years a hybrid version known as the Energi will be produced also.
The styling of the new Mondeo gives the vehicle a substantial appearance. Indeed some have commented how the headlight and grill assembly gives the vehicle the look of a DB9, which is bound to be a hit with prospective buyers.
Will the Ford Mondeo legend continue
Of course the new Mondeo will have plenty to live up to, as its predecessors have won a string of awards down the years. Indeed the model it replaces, the mark 4, has won What Car Family Car of the Year and Estate Car if the Year for 3 out of the last 4 years.
How will the new version fair? Only time will tell of course, but if the past history of the model is anything to go by then the fifth generation Ford Mondeo looks set to be a hit with the UK public again!
